Claude C. Kenni Series/Fandom: Star Ocean the Second Story Original or Template version: Original Age: 19 Gender: Male Species: Human Sexuality: Straight
Appearance: Claude is an average looking young man, standing at about five feet, nine inches. He only weighs about one hundred and fifty pounds, despite his love of eating. Even though he may not look it, Claude is also fairly strong, with a well toned body thanks to years of training to become an officer in the Earth Federation. Originally he wielded a high tech phase gun, but since that breaks early on in his journey, he switches to a sword, which enhances his upper body strength quite a bit.
Claude is thought to look like his mother, since he has light blonde hair and blue eyes, as well as fair skin. His father has much darker features, so few usually believe that the fair boy is his son. Despite being a member of the Earth Federation, he does not dress extremely formal. He prefers comfy white pants, a black tank top and his short sleeved Earth Federation jacket. He pushes back his frizzy blonde hair with a red sweatband.
Personality: As a young man, Claude is prone to being silly and making jokes. He likes to have fun, to get into a bit of mischief, to eat, and to play computer games. One of the running jokes amongst people he knows is how much Claude can eat in one sitting.
However, when he is on the job, the blonde is very serious. The main reason why is that Claude struggles to step out from under his father’s shadow. He is not extremely confident in himself because he has always been known as the son of the hero, Ronixis J. Kenni. He feels he has a lot to live up to, but will never be seen as himself. He will only be seen as his father’s son. His achievements mean nothing because it is all thanks to the guidance of his dad. Because of this lack of confidence, Claude can seem like a bit of a whiner, as well as weak in combat.
The good thing is that Claude has a good deal of determination. He works hard, and he is also fiercely loyal. When he arrives on Expel and is asked to examine the Sorcery Globe that is causing disaster on the planet, Claude takes on the mission, though reluctantly. Through his journey, however, he meets several companions that he comes to rely on heavily. He decides to find his strength in those friends and eventually begins to stand on his own two feet. His will pays off and Claude becomes a real hero, strong and passionate about saving the lives of those he cares about. Even without his father’s guidance, he becomes a strong man through his own ideals of friendship.
He is a genuinely good guy, and likes to help those in need. He gets satisfaction from helping the weak, and is generally cheery and outgoing. He is quick to smile and has a strong sense of right and wrong. He makes friends easily, as Claude is friendly right off the bat and enjoys having fun. The only time Claude becomes angry or nasty is when you mess with somebody he cares about.
Abilities/Strengths: Claude does not use magic or spells in combat. His basic weapon is a sword, and he can use techniques that almost look like spells. However, they are really just manipulation of the sword and the air around him, along with his own fighting strength that makes these powerful attacks. As one of the main fighters in the group, Claude has a decent balance of offense and defense. He can swing his sword with skill, and also take quite a few hits before going down.
His main strength, however, comes from his friends. As the journey continues and Claude forges bonds with more people from different worlds and places, he grows as a person and discovers what it means to protect something.
Weaknesses: Because Claude can’t use any spells, he has no real way to heal himself. He must rely on others for support as he beats away at monsters from the front lines.
Also, Claude has a severe problem with self confidence at the start of everything. He constantly wonders if he will ever be seen as a separate individual from his father, which causes him to hesitate on many decisions and important choices early on. One of his teammates even complains that Claude may not be well suited as the leader of their group and says maybe he shouldn’t fight along side them. Claude seems to almost go with the flow of his life, hoping that something will happen to him and make him important, rather than working for it on his own.
Even though Claude’s identity crisis doesn’t exactly abate until later, the fact that he isn’t strong enough is a thought that plague him for quite some time, making his performance in battle shoddy.
History: In the future, earthlings have developed the ability to travel though space. They have crossed into the ocean of stars and discovered new planets, befriending the populations that inhabit them. In time, there were enough life containing planets to form what was called the Earth Federation, a special organization that held peace between the planets, as well as promoted more space travel and discovery.
Several years ago, there was a man that saved an entire planet, and because of his efforts, he was given the highest award possible from the Federation, as well as the post of commander within the Federation. This man was Ronixis J. Kenni, the hero of Star Ocean 1. Later, Ronixis married and became a father, and his son was named Claude C. Kenni. Claude was born under a large shadow as the only child of Ronixis, and from the time he could comprehend it, he knew his dad was an important man that many people looked up to. Claude wanted to be like his father, he wanted to be a hero, and so he worked hard. He attended school, got decent grades, and eventually made it to the academy to become a Federation officer.
At the age of nineteen, Claude was commissioned as an Ensign in the Earth Federation, and he finally got his chance to become like his father. On one of his first missions, Claude accompanied his father on a scout team that would explore the surface of the planet Milocenia. Along with a few other researchers and his dad, Claude went down to the surface, but not before hearing some of the other Ensigns talking about him behind his back, saying that he got special treatment because he was the Commander’s son.
While on Milocenia, Claude discovers a strange device and attempts to examine it. Ronixis and the others tell Claude to stay away from it, but Claude insists that he can handle it himself. So, rather recklessly, Claude approaches the machine and it activates. A blinding flash of light issue from the device, and when it clears, Claude has disappeared.
When he awakens, Claude is in a forest on an underdeveloped planet called Expel. A young girl named Rena Lanford finds him, and ends up saving her from a large and angry monster. He uses the phase gun his father gave him, which issues a strong beam of light. Rena is mesmerized by her hero and runs from him, heading back to a village. Claude follows, and ends up in Arlia where he discovers that no one knows what machines or space ships are. Eventually he finds Rena again, and with a proper introduction, Claude is welcomed by Rena’s mother and given a feast as thanks for saving her daughter. Later, Rena is kidnapped by a childhood friend who is possessed by something called an energy stone, and Claude rushes to save her, using the last of his phase gun’s power to break down the door to the mansion where she is being held.
After saving Rena again, Claude learns that the people of Arlia think he is the Legendary “Hero of Light” and that he will save them from disaster and calamity that has befallen their planet. Claude insists that he is not the hero, much to Rena’s disappointment. Despite not being the real “Hero”, the mayor of Arlia still asks Claude to go on a journey and investigate the Sorcery Globe, which is a giant black globe that fell from the sky and crashed into the continent of El. Ever since, people have been becoming possessed (Like Rena’s friend), animals have become monsters, and strange weather and disaster shave occurred all over Expel. Although he refuses at first, Claude finally decides that he may get home if he investigates, so he goes, and Rena tags a long with him. Before leaving, the mayor gives Claude a sword and the blonde uses that as his main weapon from then on out.
From then on, Claude is set out on a journey to save Expel from certain doom. He makes several friends along the way, everyone from Celine Jewels to Dias Flac. As he travels over Expel, Claude is caught up in a variety of adventures. He gets to fight a two headed dragon, he is caught in a town that is devastated by a gigantic tidal wave, he fights in a huge tournament and (if you do it correctly) wins, as well as saves a dying girl with a strange plant and helps a young genius find the correct ore for the weapon that will supposedly destroy the Sorcery Globe. The weapon fails.
Eventually, Claude and his group get to the continent of El and they make their way directly for the Sorcery Globe. Once inside, they fight their way up a huge tower called Eluria and eventually come to a device that transports Claude back to his father’s ship! Ronixis tells Claude to stay with him and leave Expel behind, there is nothing that can be done for them now. Claude refuses and despite his father’s pleadings, decides to fight with his friends and return to Expel. Once back, the group goes on to discover the force behind the whole incident on Expel and find that the “God’s Ten Wise Men” are the ones controlling everything. They arrived on Expel and were using the Sorcery Globe to change Elpel’s orbit. Using the Energy Stones to speed up the orbit change, they would soon crash Expel into another planet called Energy Nede, hoping to destroy it. After that, they wish to control the universe. The group tries to fight the bad guys there, but they lose horribly. As the Ten Wise Men prepare to leave Expel, Claude and his companions are caught in the space/time jump and end up leaving the exploding Expel.
When Claude wakes up, he is on Energy Nede. Expel’s collision with it did nothing to Energy Nede, but blew up Expel in the process. Nobody but Claude knows this at the time. From this point on, Claude and his group have a new goal to work towards, defeating the Ten Wise Men and saving the universe. They try to discover the history behind their enemies, as well as acquire weapons with which they can defeat the incredibly powerful biological weapons. Making a few new friends as they travel, Claude finally comes to the Ten Wise Men’s tower and they attempt to fight them again. From here on is a series of excruciating battles, and also some casualties. In the middle of one of their encounters, the Ten Wise Men destroy Claude’s father’s ship, killing Ronixis and the crew. Claude is devastated, and it takes him quite some time to recover. But when he does, he vows to kill every single one of the Ten wise Men, for his father’s sake as well as the galaxy’s.
In the final fight, Claude learns that the leader of the Ten Wise Men does not want to control the galaxy… he wants to destroy it. And in his last fight to protect the universe, Claude fights to his last breath against Indalecio/Gabrielle, hoping to save everything and also revive Expel. (One is the English name, one is the Japanese).
